I halted my car beside the snow-covered roadside of rural Wisconsin drawn by the allure of forgotten history. The once utilized rural structures now stand as stoic witnesses to a bygone era. Along Old 49 between Iola and Scandinavia in Waupaca County, I discovered two weathered buildings, silent storytellers of the rich rural legacy and the subsequent decline of this area’s fortunes. The January snow transforms the scene into a canvas of high key contrast, accentuating the details of neglect and Nature’s steadfast reclamation. As a landscape photographer, I feel a deep connection to the beauty that persists even in abandonment, a testament to the cyclical rhythm of life.
After dedicating five decades to print publishing and photojournalism, primarily in newspapers, I've embarked on a captivating journey to capture the vibrancy of Wisconsin's nature and the enchanting beauty of its woodlands and prairies through the lens of fine art photography and paintography. Through my work, I aim to narrate the stories of what I see and experience during my photographic endeavors.
