Description
The Large-Flowered Trillium features a single white flower with three petals though some with four petals are seen. The flower sits atop three pointed green sepals. It also has three large toothless broadleaves. The plant loves wood deciduous woodland. There are six species found in Wisconsin. It is also an interesting note that ants carry the flower’s seeds back to their nest and don’t eat them. As the flower ages, it turns pink. My favorite tactic in “hunting” down the best trillium for photographs is traveling for hours along rural backroads with wooded areas. I also find that mornings have the best lighting conditions even with sun.
