In the quiet charm of rural Iola, Wisconsin, a picturesque moment unfolded on an overcast October day. Rural backroad travel during the autumn exposes the landscape photographer to may unanticipated opportunities. As I drove down County Road G, the vibrant hues of autumn surrounded me, challenging my eyes to find the perfect composition. Nature, however, had a plan. Amidst the sea of colors, two brilliant red Maple trees stood proudly, acting as bookends to a couple of deep green Pine trees. Against a backdrop of blazing yellow Birch trees, the contrasting colors and textures made me hit the brakes, reverse, and revel in the find before me. Stepping out onto the roadside, I framed the scene — capturing the essence of fall's magnificence. This unexpected encounter reminded me that sometimes, the most breathtaking moments are found when you least expect them. For me, fall photography isn’t any better than this!
After dedicating five decades to print publishing and photojournalism, primarily in newspapers, I've embarked on a captivating journey to capture the vibrancy of Wisconsin's nature and the enchanting beauty of its woodlands and prairies through the lens of fine art photography and paintography. Through my work, I aim to narrate the stories of what I see and experience during my photographic endeavors. As a proud member of the Photographic Society of America, the Wisconsin Professional Photographers Association, and the Focal Point Camera Club, I've had the privilege of showcasing my work, mainly centered around Central Wisconsin, in various art shows.
